Al McCandless
Mr. Alfred A. (Al) McCandless was born in Brawley, California. He received a BA
in Political Science & Public Administration from UCLA and is a graduate from
the General Motors Institute School of Business Management.
In the United States Marine Corps, Mr. McCandless served in Pacific/China/Japan
from 1945-1946, recalled in 1950-1952, Korean Theater. He graduated from the
Naval Intelligence School and was released with rank of Captain.
Mr. McCandless was an owner of a General Motors Dealership in Indio, California,
from 1953 – 1975; Riverside County Supervisor from 1971 to 1983, Founding
President of Sunline Transit Agency, Founding Member of the Coachella Valley
Association of Governments, Founding President of South Coast Air Quality
Management District; and Elected U. S. House of Representatives from 1983-1995.
Committees include Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs, Government Operations,
member of the Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley Foundation Board of
Trustees, Chairman of the Building Committee, Past President of the Indio Rotary
Club and Honorary Life Time Member of the Indio Chamber of Commerce.
